Joannie & I are very excited to share Dillon and April’s beautiful JX Event Venue light painting! We created this cool image during their wedding reception on Memorial Day Weekend. Photography-wise, this was the icing on the cake for their wonderful wedding day!
This is what it looked like before we started to light paint the scene:
In “Part One” of their awesome wedding day, we shared images and stories of the events leading up to and including their wedding ceremony. We shared images of them getting ready, April’s dad and Dillon’s first looks, lots of family and wedding party images outdoors, and the pretty ceremony itself!
In “Part Two”, April and Dillon’s wedding celebration was on! First, during the social hour, the entire wedding party and both sets of parents jumped on one of the famous Stillwater Trolleys for a quick tour of the town. With photo stops at Pioneer Park, the famous Stillwater Lift Bridge, and at a scenic spot that overlooks the St. Croix River Valley to the north.
Then, it was back to the party for a terrific dinner followed by celebrating and dancing the night away!
Light Painting The Grand Staircase
When they first saw it, April and Dillon fell in love with the JX! And one of the many reasons was the stunning entry at the venue. And one of the reasons they selected us as their wedding photographers was because they knew that we created light paintings at many of our weddings.
Because we knew they loved the Grand Staircase we decided that would be the spot to create their one-of-kind wedding photograph at JX Event Venue. This one would be challenging in that the ceiling is very high. There’s lots of detail up there and getting directional light up there would be difficult. Also, there were trees outside and I had to decide whether to light paint them or let the windows go dark. The near-full moon that was out that night made that call for me, light paint the trees!
Here is their finished image!
There’s A Movie!
As we do for each and every one of our light paintings, we’ve got a short movie on our YouTube Channel that shows the images and the steps that went into creating this cool light painted wedding photograph for Dillon and April. It’s only about one minute long, check it out!
