TPC Twin Cities Light Painted Wedding Photograph

Joannie and I have another pretty one-of-a-kind light painted wedding photograph to share with you! This beauty is Dan and Katie’s TPC Twin Cities light painted wedding photograph created under a starry sky during their wedding dance at the TPC!

This was one of those rare times where I knew where I wanted to create Dan and Katie’s light painted wedding photo before we even left the studio that morning. The clubhouse at the TPC Twin Cities Blaine has such great character, textures, and dimensions, so that had to be the setting.

Twinkle, Twinkle – Lots of Stars!

Ultimately, the sky would determine the exact spot for this TPC Twin Cities light painted wedding photo. If there were clouds, and maybe a cool looking moon, I would have photographed toward the east. But since there wasn’t a cloud to be found anywhere in the sky, the western sky was the better direction on this beautiful late summer night. The post-sunset glow in the low horizon, along with millions of stars in the sky, made this the prettier direction.

Just Add The King & Queen

Once we had Dan and Katie’s wedding dance well documented, Joannie and I began the set-up for their TPC Twin Cities light painted wedding picture. To successfully create light paintings that have people in them, the lighting is very critical. Joannie is always my “test subject” before we go and get our couples for their wedding photography light paintings. I’m always very aware of the amount of time that I have our newlyweds away from their receptions. I want it to be the shortest time possible.

Dan and Katie were actually outside visiting with many of their guests on this beautiful evening. So it was very easy to have them step over to our location for a few minutes. Once we had the image we needed, they went back to their party.

As always, the actual light painting part happens after our couples’ leave us. I go around and light the scene from dozens of different angles, with Joannie firing the camera each time I’m in a new spot. It’s like a mini-lightning storm!

So, now you have a little taste of what goes through my mind before, during, and after we create these one-of-a-kind light painted wedding photos for our wedding clients. Not quite as simple as using your iPhone.

So, without further ado, here’s the finished light painted wedding photograph of Dan, Katie, and a whole lotta stars, at the TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, MN.
