Light Painting of Pillsbury Hall
Up next, we have a stunning light painting of Pillsbury Hall! Historic Pillsbury Hall is located on the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota. This cool, one-of-a-kind portrait was created for Kevin & Carolina as part of their wedding coverage. Kevin and Carolina were married at the pretty Centennial Lakes Amphitheater in Edina, MN back on July 27th.
While we hoped to create a light painting during their wedding day, there was no opportunity to do so, and I wanted to create something really special for them. So we all decided that we would create one at a later date.
U of M Old Campus Historic District
The University of Minnesota Old Campus Historic District is a National Historic District. It has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places since 1984. It includes a number of historic buildings that were constructed during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The district represents the oldest section of the University of Minnesota campus.
Two Alumni and One Cool Building
The idea for creating Kevin and Carolina’s light painting at Pillsbury Hall actually came up during their engagement portrait session on the U of M campus back in the springtime. As we were walking around the U of M campus during their engagement session, I remarked that I would love to create light paintings of some of the wonderful buildings there. Little did I know that thought would come true a couple of months later.
There is no way that I can light paint a building of that size without some assistance. After being in the set-up shot, Kevin and Carolina were tremendously helpful to me creating the rest of their light painting of Pillsbury Hall. It didn’t take more than a few images for both of them to get a pretty good idea of what I was looking for from each exposure. We took more than 250 images total and the final image ended up using more than 50 of them. Thanks, guys!
The Movie
As we’ve done for each one of our major light paintings, there’s a video (below) on our YouTube Channel with some of the steps that went into creating Kevin and Carolina’s unique light painting at Pillsbury Hall. It’s only about one minute long, but it’s kind of fun to see the whole thing come together from start to finish.
