Bald eagles are one of my favorite travel and wildlife subjects to photograph. I just love watching these beautiful birds! Whether they’re sitting in a tree, or soaring in the sky, there’s just something magical about them that I just want to capture with my cameras.

I’m very fortunate to live in Minnesota where they are somewhat plentiful. Compared to most of the rest of the lower 48 states, we do have a fair number of them here. I’m also very happy that they are no longer considered endangered. Hopefully, their numbers will continue to increase so that more people can see them in the wild for themselves.

Joannie and I took a bucket list trip to Alaska a few years ago, and boy, did we see bald eagles! Many of the images that you’ll see in our bald eagle gallery are from Alaska, but there are quite a few of them that are taken in Minnesota as well.

That bucket list trip to Alaska brings us to our next subject, bears! Not just any bears, but Alaska Brown Bears, known in other parts of the world as grizzly bears! During the summer of 2021, Joannie and I had an amazing opportunity to capture Alaska Brown Bear photographs at the world-famous Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska!

Brooks Falls is a famous waterfall that’s located in the aforementioned Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska. Its headquarters are at Brooks Camp, on the Brooks River. The falls are about a mile or so downstream from Brooks Lake and about the same distance upstream from Naknek Lake.

Fresh salmon, it’s what’s for lunch!

Brooks Falls is literally world-famous for watching brown bears catching salmon. They do this as the fish attempt to leap over the 6-foot waterfall as they make their way back to spawn at Brooks Lake. As a kid, I had seen many cool grizzly bear photographs taken there. And, now that I’m older, and a seasoned professional photographer, I wanted to capture some of my very own! And I am very pleased to say that I did just that!

Travel and Wildlife Photography in Hawaii

Our next travel and wildlife subject is probably our favorite because of its location. Its Hawaii.

After photographing Willie and Brittany’s beautiful wedding at the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island, we got hooked on Hawaii! And we’ve been back several times since!

Hawaii will be having a few pages and galleries of its own. The first one is coming very, very soon. It will showcase an amazing landscape photography location on the Big Island of Hawaii called Pele’s Well.

I’m planning on at least two additional pages and galleries, including humpback whales, pretty orchids (that Joannie and I light painted), and possibly some really pretty sand beaches too. Keep an eye out for those. We will announce them on our Facebook pages as well.

Here’s the link to our Photography Facebook Page.

And, here’s the link to my (Michael’s) Facebook Page.

That’s it for now, thank you for visiting this page, and our other travel and wildlife photography pages too! There will be lots more to come! – M&J
