Michelle & Ben’s Engagement Portraits in Stillwater, Minnesota
As many of you know, our daughter Michelle will be getting married to Ben Austin in just a few months from now! While Joannie & I are going to play “mom & dad” that day and not be their wedding photographers. But we still wanted to create some of their engagement portraits for them. So this past Sunday, in the high heat and humidity, we set out to create some engagement photos in Stillwater, MN.
Creating engagement portraits in Stillwater is one of my favorite locations in the whole area because of all the variety of backgrounds it has to offer. I think we did a pretty good job of finding and using many of them on Sunday.
The weather, besides being hot & humid, decided to toss in some rain for good measure right when we got started. But after a little time fixing Ben’s hair, we were back in business! 🙂
As you can see in the infrared engagement photo above, I decided to bring along our Canon 5D Super Color Infrared Camera. While not a perfect day for infrared, I still liked a couple of the images we captured. Because it’s invisible to the naked eye, you just don’t know how if any infrared light there is unless you try!
We had a nice time cooling off in the St. Croix River just a couple miles north of Stillwater. The images are pretty too!
Because of the heat, we just took our time going from location to location with a few outfit changes along the way. We even stopped for an ice cream break at the famous Leo’s Grill & Malt Shop in downtown Stillwater, MN.
One of my favorite images from Michelle & Ben’s engagement portraits in Stillwater is the image above! I decided to keep the lollipop in color and the rest of the image in a warm “chocolatey” B&W. Looks yummy!
We finished Michelle & Ben’s engagement portraits in Stillwater at this pretty spot with the St. Croix River and the boat harbor off in the distance. Then it was off to Smalley’s Caribbean Barbeque and Pirate Bar for a nice dinner and some refreshments to celebrate a fun session!
