Light Painting of a Learjet 45XR
Happy Fourth of July! We’ve got another cool light painting project wrapped up (actually two)! This time it’s a Learjet 45XR as well as a second light painting with the jet and a 1978 Pontiac Firebird!
King, one of the plane’s pilots, was instrumental in getting this project if you’ll pardon the pun, “off the ground”. He put me in touch with the owners of this fine aircraft. Once they gave the go-ahead for the project, he kept me in the loop about the timing and location. The Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie, Minnesota was the location selected. It was just a matter of whether would it be created in the hangar, or outside. Due to high winds that evening, we went the indoor route. The plane’s wings would have been bouncing around in that wind, not exactly a good thing when I need everything to be very still.
About The Learjet
The Final Artwork
Here’s the finished one-of-a-kind artwork of the beautiful aircraft. I’m really happy with the way this turned out! The Learjet 45XR looks fantastic and I love the reflection of the plane on the hangar floor too! A big thank you to King for his assistance that night and for helping this project come to fruition!
Let’s Add A 1978 Pontiac Firebird!
During the planning stages, we talked about adding a car belonging to one of the owners to the light painting. Unfortunately, that was not able to happen. However, King asked me if he could bring a car to be in the shoot. Not just any car either, this was his very first car, a 1978 Pontiac Firebird!
Since this meant that the project was now for two different parties, I would need to do something I’d never done before, combining two separate light paintings into one! I’m very pleased with how King’s version of the light painting turned out! We even slipped King in there for a quick cameo at the very end! Sweet!
Light Painting a Learjet 45XR and a 1978 Pontiac Firebird
I’ve created a short Build Video for our YouTube channel with all of the images that went into creating this cool project. In all, we took over 450 images that night. I ended up using more than 90 of them to complete the two projects. In the video, you’ll see both light paintings come to life and you’ll also see both of them come together as one!
Thank you for taking time out of your day to read our post. We hope you have a safe and fun Fourth of July! – M&J
