2023 Corvette Z06
We are pleased to share four more cool light painted photographs of Mike and Sandy’s White Pearl Metallic 2023 Corvette Z06. We featured three other amazing light paintings in our first story about their Corvette project. Two of those light paintings were the inside of both the front and rear “trunks.”
The “Main Event” light painting in that story was of the whole car. And not just an ordinary view of it either! This one had Lake of the Ozarks and a stunning sunset as the backdrop! And, oh yeah, there was a flying saucer in the photograph too!
Those were just the first three of seven light paintings! This truly was an amazing automotive light painting project of an equally amazing car! Please click on this link to view that full story and enjoy those three images (and much more)!
The Main Event – Part Two
It’s not often that I attempt two light paintings of a whole car in one night. Light painting an entire car, and the scene, is pretty time-consuming. However, this car and the location are just too cool to not have tried to do so. I’m very pleased to say that both of them, and the other five, turned out extremely well too!
I had already set up a second camera and tripod so that I could capture a daylight version of the scene. That also allowed me to get the changing sky after the sunset. So, after completing the “Flying Saucer” version of the whole car, we light painted the Corvette’s “profile” with a rear-end teaser to boot.
Light Painting the Interior of a 70th Anniversary Corvette Z06
2023 marked the 70th anniversary of the Corvette. The 2023 Corvette Z06 was specially designed to celebrate that milestone. I’d say that they hit it out of the park with this one!
Getting this interior photographed was a challenge of its own! Trying to place the camera in such tight quarters was very unusual, to say the least! We ended up taking the battery pack off my Canon R5 so that it could fit between the driver and passenger seats and not hit the roof. And, because there was no room for a tripod of any size, we used both Mike’s and my wallets to support the weight of my massive Canon EF 11-24mm f/4.0 L USM lens. It wasn’t easy, but we managed to pull it off!
Light Painting the Front and Rear End of the 2023 Corvette Z06
We’ve also created a full-on light painting of the front end and another of the rear end of the Corvette. Both of these were done under the most difficult of weather conditions for any type of automotive photography. Hitting the dew point.
Yes, we unexpectedly hit the dew point at about 11:00 PM. The only saving grace was that this Corvette was white. Any other color and neither of these would have had a chance of working out.
Even then, Mike, Sandy, and I had to resort to changing locations to do the light painting of the Corvette’s front end. Try as we might, the car just got too wet. Even the inside of the windshield was wet! You couldn’t even see the seats! The only way that the windshield and the car’s body were going to dry out in these conditions was to take the car for a drive to get the defrosters to dry it off.
So we packed up everything and headed about 30 minutes down the road to Mike and Sandy’s home. We would complete the front end’s light painting right in their driveway. Since I knew that I was going to “blackout” the entire background, I just needed a dry car! Even then, it didn’t take long for dew to start showing up again. I worked quickly and got it done so that we, and the Corvette, could all go to bed!
2023 Corvette Z06 – The Movie
As always, we have a short video on our YouTube channel. It contains the images that were taken and the ones that were used to “build” the light painting of the 2023 Corvette Z06. It’s the perfect sequel to the “Flying Saucer” version. We’ll place the link to that one below too!
And, we’re not done light painting Corvettes on this trip yet! Coming up is a stunning 1958 (and another surprise too)! Watch for those stories coming soon!
If you love Corvettes, we have an entire page dedicated to them on our Light Painting website. Clicking on this link will take you to that page. Thank you for taking the time to read our post and have a great day! – M&J
