70th Anniversary Corvette Z06

70th Anniversary Corvette Z06

I’ve recently returned from another fantastic light painting trip to Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. One of the vehicles I had the opportunity to light paint was a fabulous 70th Anniversary Corvette Z06! This was my first light painting project of 2024. What a way to get the season started!

The set-up photo, as seen from above. I’m just waiting for it to get dark enough to begin light painting the Corvette (and the flying saucer).

The car’s owners, Mike and Sandy, asked me to create their one-of-a-kind artwork back in January. That was when they heard I was returning to the Lake of the Ozarks Corvette Club Show on April 26th and 27th. Mike was the Club President in 2022-23 and was instrumental in my return to their exceptionally run Corvette Show. After I attended last year’s show, I knew I would be coming back! Their Corvette Show is that good!

What makes for a great car show? Well, from my perspective as a vendor, it has to be well-run and very organized. Check. A quality car show also needs lots of friendly volunteers to help out in every facet of the show. Check. It needs to be well attended. Check. And, last, but not least, ideally it should be for a good cause. Double check!

The Lake of the Ozarks Corvette Club raises thousands of dollars for local charities every year! I like being a part of that! Here’s the list of charities that benefited in 2023:

  • Share the Harvest in Greenview. Serving an average of 800 local families a month with food insecurities.
  • Citizens Against Domestic Violence. CADV recently opened a shelter with beds for 20 women and their children as well as 6 male beds, donations directly help those affected by domestic violence.
  • Survivors of Blue Suicide. Donations from LOCC will be used to directly assist those survivors of law enforcement individuals who have committed suicide.
  • Lake Area Counseling & Behavioral Health in Camdenton. The organization serves the Missouri counties of Camden, Laclede, Miller, Morgan, Oniteau, and Webster, serving approximately 600 clients a year.
  • Missouri Forget Me Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary in Linn Creek. 170 rescued horses on 130 acres.
  • Meow Town Animal Rescue. With vet bills, food, and other costs entailed in rescuing animals, the shelter was relieved to receive help from LOCC.
  • Dogwood Animal Shelter, The shelter consistently houses 250 to 300 animals, including medical treatment, food, and other costs.
  • Some of the trophies for the 2024 Lake of the Ozarks Corvette Club Car Show. The 2023 Best of Show Corvette is also on display.

Here are just a few of the dozens of trophies and awards that were given out at the show this year! Bobby and Billie’s 60th Anniversary Corvette Grand Sport, the 2023 LOCC “Best of Show” Corvette, is on display as well!

The Lake of the Ozarks Corvette Club Show in 2023

While attending last year’s Lake of the Ozarks Corvette Club Show, I had the opportunity to create four amazing major light painting projects (and several smaller ones too). Please check on the links below to check each of them out. They are all so cool!

Light Painting a 2023 70th Anniversary Corvette Z06

I had the pleasure of creating not one, not two, not three, but seven separate light paintings of this fabulous car for Mike and Sandy! We took nearly 700 exposures during their seven unique light paintings! Here’s what we accomplished:

  1. A full view of the car from the front and driver’s side (with a rather unique photo-bomb add-on).
  2. A second full view, a full side profile, with a little peak of the rear end showing.
  3. The full rear-engine compartment also includes a “mini-trunk” with the Corvette’s matching 70th Anniversary Luggage.
  4. The “other trunk”, which, because it’s a C8 Corvette, is in the front of the car.
  5. The interior (which was just a little tricky to place a camera in such tight quarters).
  6. A full front-end view.
  7. A full view of the rear end.

Here’s what the camera saw about 45 minutes before the light painting began.

By the time we got to the front and rear end light paintings, we hit the dew point at about 11:00 pm. I don’t know if either of those light paintings worked. I’ll find out when I put them together in post-production in the days ahead. Stay tuned.

This was a full evening, to say the least! We met at Mike & Sandy’s home at 6:00 pm and didn’t return until almost 2:00 am the next morning! This post will feature three of their light paintings, with the others coming soon.

The 2023 C8 Corvette – The Car With Two Trunks!

Let’s begin with a couple of the many unique features of this White Pearl Metallic C8 Corvette. First off is the “trunk”, which is located in the front of the car. It includes an American Flag made out of wood, complete with the Corvette Logo. Very nice!

Here’s the light painting of the “front trunk” of the C8 Corvette.

Then we turned our attention to the “other trunk” which contains the Corvette’s LT6 5.5 Liter N/A DOHC VVT V8 engine with 670 Horsepower/470 LB-FT Torque! A cooler-looking powerplant you would be hard-pressed to find! With all that power back there, Chevrolet still managed to put some actual trunk space in the “trunk.” It’s there where you’ll also find Mike and Sandy’s car-matching 70th Anniversary Corvette Luggage!

It’s not very often that you’ll find “trunk space” in an engine compartment! Well, the C8 Corvette Z06 has some!

Light Painting a Corvette AND a Flying Saucer!

The pre-light painting setup photo of a 70th Anniversary Corvette Z06, a flying saucer from the movie Men In Black.

Here’s the setup photo. I’m just waiting for it to get dark enough to begin light painting.

The main event of this light painting project has to be this stunning view of the Corvette and the fabulous location (the pretty sunset didn’t hurt either)! The full car, from the front and driver’s side, with a beautiful sunset over Lake of the Ozarks. Oh, yeah, and a photo-bombing flying saucer!

Yep. I created a light painting of Mike and Sandy’s 2023 70th Anniversary Corvette Z06 with a flying saucer!

Where The Heck Did That Come From?

It just so happens that Mike and Sandy “know a guy.” And that guy’s name is Pete. Pete and his partner Vanessa welcomed us with open arms to their beautiful property overlooking Lake of the Ozarks.

Well, Pete has a unique collection of Hollywood movie props. One of which is the flying saucer from the movie Men In Black! And there it is, “hovering” over Lake of the Ozarks, and Mike and Sandy’s C8 Corvette!

A beautiful light painting of a 70th Anniversary Corvette Z06 created at Lake of the Ozarks, MO. A flying saucer from the movie "Men In Black" is also there!

The flying saucer from the movie “Men In Black” makes a cameo in this C8 Corvette light painting! Pretty cool!

There’s a good chance that I might take some artistic license with that cool piece of Hollywood history in another of their light paintings. Just wait and see!

70th Anniversary C8 Corvette Z06 (and a Flying Saucer) – The Movie

As always, I’ve created a short “Build Video” that shows the images that were taken and the post-production layering process that went into creating the final one-of-a-kind artwork for Mike and Sandy. The link to the video from our YouTube channel is below. We know you’ll enjoy watching it!
