2016 Corvette Z06

Light Painting a Long Beach Red 2016 Corvette Z06

Up next, we’ve got four unique light-painted photographs – and all four are of a beautiful Long Beach Red 2016 Corvette Z06! This was the second of three light painting photography projects that Joannie and I created on our trip to Oklahoma and Arkansas. The first one, a red-hot 2015 Corvette Z06, was created a couple of nights before this cool project. You can check out that amazing image and its full story, including some fun Route 66 images, at his link.

We created these one-of-a-kind images for Tom and Amanda. I met them at Corvettes in Paradise, a fabulous car show put on by the Lake of the Ozarks Corvette Club, back in April. A few weeks after the show, we set out to decide when to make the trip for these projects. Late August turned out ot be the best for everyone. Then, Tom came up with quite a location for these images, a fabulous mansion owned by a good friend of theirs!

Here’s the setup photo. All we needed was for it to get dark out so that the light painting magic could begin.

Light Painting Photography in Oklahoma & Arkansas

As mentioned, this was the second project that we created on this special light painting trip to Oklahoma and Arkansas. Both of these were beautiful Corvettes. And the third project, to be light-painted in Arkansas, was also scheduled to be a Vette. That project would be the first time that we’ve light-painted a Corvette E-Ray! However, once we arrived, we found out that there would be a “surprise” vehicle added to that project! Stay tuned for that beauty, it’s our next project to create in post-production!

Then, just for fun, we snuck in a 4th light painting project of the Vintage Texaco Station below. It’s on Route 66 in Kansas! We will share that cool image once it’s completed, too.

If you’re ever in the Galena, Kansas area, you owe it to yourself to check out Gearhead Curios. It’s located inside this amazing vintage Texaco Station right on Historic Route 66.

Light Painting a 2016 Corvette Z06 and a Beautiful Mansion

We arrived at the location Tom and Amanda had lined up for their light painting project. Joannie and I knew going in that the Corvette was going to be fantastic, but boy, the location was going to make this quite the amazing light painting!

It was raining, very lightly, when we arrived. So Tom had the Corvette Z06 parked under the carport to keep it nice and dry. We set up our photography gear and then discussed with Tom and Amanda just where we would place the Vette, and how much of the mansion would be in the image. We placed the Corvette once we were pretty convinced it was done sprinkling.

Between the size of the mansion and getting the Z06 photographed properly, this one took us a while, but it was SO worth it! I added the blood moon, per Tom’s request, as it goes along nicely with what you’ll see in the next light painting of the Z06’s cool engine compartment.

Both the Corvette Z06’s hood and trunk liners feature custom hand-painted artworks with blood moons. So, as per Tom’s request, I added one to the image in post!

Light Painting the Engine Compartment of a 2016 Corvette Z06

Once we had finished up with the “Main Event”, we set out to create three other light paintings that featured parts of the car that you don’t get to see when it’s on the street. Setting up for each of these images was not easy, as it was already totally dark out when we set up each one.

First up was the fantastic engine compartment, which features, among many cool things, a custom hand-painted hood liner with a majestic bald eagle and a blood moon. Vehicle engine bays always make for great light paintings because they’re filled, fender-to-fender, with details! As you can see, this Corvette’s engine compartment is certainly no exception.

All told, 38 images were taken of the engine bay, and I used 19 of those, and 41 layers in Photoshop to complete the image.

This engine compartment light painting says it all! The custom, hand-painted hood liner featuring a bald eagle and a blood moon is the icing on the cake!

Light Painting the Interior of a 2016 Corvette Z06

Then, we set up to light paint the Corvette Z06’s cool interior. That might sound like a relatively easy task, but let’s face it, there’s not a lot of room inside any Corvette to place a camera!

I did manage to set our Canon R5 in a spot that held it in place. Since the camera was literally just sitting there between the seats, it was important not to touch the car, which might make it move ever so slightly. So we handled the interior’s photography very gingerly, trying not to touch the car at all! Thankfully, we pulled it off!

This also allowed us to showcase that cool custom-painted hood liner once again! We took 40 images of the interior, and I ended up using 19 of those and 29 layers to create the final Master File.

Placing a camera inside the Corvette wasn’t easy; however, the final results were certainly worth it!

Light Painting the Rear End of a 2016 Corvette Z06

Our final light painting of this fabulous Z06 was the rear-end view. This only makes sense because this is how most of us see Corvettes on the road – from the back as they’re passing us!

The custom, hand-painted trunk liner featuring a bald eagle and a blood moon makes the image even better! This Corvette Z06 is so very cool!

The view really shows off the fantastic lines of this cool car! It also features another custom hand-painted trunk liner with a soaring bald eagle and a blood moon. Way too cool!

In this Master File, I used 22 of the 46 images that we took that night, and 41 layers were used as well.

2016 Corvette Z06 Convertible – The Movie(s)

As is our custom, we’ve created not one, but two “Build Videos” of Tom and Amanda’s fantastic light paintings for our YouTube channel. The first one, of the Corvette and the mansion, begins with the images that I used to create their one-of-a-kind artwork in post-production. Of those 260 images that Joannie and I took that night, 99 of them were used to create the final image, and 142 layers in the Master File.

The second Build Video contains the engine bay, interior, and rear-end light paintings. The link to view those is below:

This project will eventually be added to our dedicated Light Painting Photography Website. We’ve still got several projects in the hopper before the cold weather gets here. So, it could be a while until it gets added.

We still have two more projects that were created on this trip. Then we have light painting trips to North Carolina, and another in Massachusetts coming up! Please stay tuned!

In the meantime, there are dozens and dozens of other cool light painting projects to check out on our website. Here’s the link: www.MichaelAndersonLightPainting.com
