2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible

2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible

Just two days after returning home from a fantastic light painting trip to Brownsville, Texas, Joannie and I hit the road! The destination: Tulsa, Oklahoma! Our first light painting project was this stunning 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible!

Here’s the “before” of Chad & Shelly’s stunning 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible. It’s a nice image of the Vette. However, once it got dark out, Joannie and I took it up quite a few notches!

This would be the first of three light painting photography projects scheduled for this trip to Oklahoma and Arkansas. And all three of them are Corvettes!

This wonderful Corvette is owned by Chad & Shelly. I met them at Corvettes in Paradise during the Lake of the Ozarks Corvette Club Show back in April. At the Awards Ceremony, I awarded their 2015 Corvette Z06 a “Photographer’s Choice Award” because, well, their Z06 looks so amazing!

We would light paint their 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible at the home of their good friends, Kevin & Donna. The following afternoon, Joannie and I headed to Kevin and Donna’s place of business, The Lodge on Main Street, in Broken Arrow, to enjoy the music and some libations. We had a great time!

Getting Our Kicks on Route 66

On our way to Tulsa, our path crossed Route 66 in Kansas. So, we made a brief stop there to take a couple of photos with the road signs in Riverton. Next thing we know, we’re visiting with a couple who suggested that we travel a few miles away to Galena, Kansas, to have a look around. What a great idea that was!

The town of Galena is very proud of its Route 66 Heritage. Joannie and I spent about 3 hours there (it could have easily been more, but we had Chad & Shelly’s Corvette light painting project scheduled for that night). One of the locations we stopped at was a cool Vintage Texaco Station. It’s owned by quite the character, a guy named Aaron. His gift shop there, called “Gearhead Curios”, is a destination all by itself! We spent at least an hour there.

Here’s a selfie of Joannie, me, and Aaron taken in front of his cool Texaco Station on Historic Route 66. His amazing “Gearhead Curios” is located inside the station. You gotta check it out if you’re ever in the neighborhood!

Aaron has lots of cool things to look at inside and outside of this nostalgic place, including one of the most unique bathrooms that you’ll EVER see! We got “The tour” of the bathroom with 4 other guests! This bathroom has even hosted a wedding!

If you’re ever in the Galena, Kansas area, you owe it to yourself to check out Gearhead Curios. It’s located inside this amazing vintage Texaco Station right on Historic Route 66.

We would make a return trip to Gearhead Curios a couple of nights later to, of course, light paint it! We’ll share that story and images once we get caught up.

“Cars on the Route 66”

Just a short distance away from Aaron’s Vintage Texaco Station is the Kan-O-Tex Service Station. This one is named Cars on the Route 66″, and it has very strong ties with the Pixar Movie, “Cars” (one of my all-time favorite movies). In fact, Mater, one of the movie’s main characters, was actually discovered here!

They have that original Mater here, as well as several other “Cars” characters. They serve up lots of fun information about the movie, as well as burgers, fries, and shakes, too! If you’re ever in the area, we would highly recommend stopping in Galena!

Light Painting a 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible

We returned to the road so that we could get to Tulsa in time to check into our hotel. And we weren’t there very long. Once we got settled into our room, we immediately got ready to head right back out the door for Chad and Shelly’s light painting location.

It was about a 30-minute drive to Kevin and Donna’s place. It had been raining off and on all day, but it was currently dry. We got set up right away so that once it was dark enough, we could attempt to get the light painting completed, just in case it started to rain again. It sprinkled a little bit towards the end, but we finished with no major problems, moisture-wise.

As you can see below, their one-of-a-kind light-painted artwork turned out fantastic!

Man, this is one hot car!

2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible – The Movie

As always, we’ve created a “Build Video” of Chad & Shelly’s pretty light painting for our YouTube channel. It begins with the images that were used to create their one-of-a-kind artwork.

Of the 274 images that Joannie and I took that night, 76 of them were used to create the final image. The Master File, created using Photoshop and other programs, has more than 106 layers. The link to view the Z06’s Build Video is below:

This project will eventually be added to our dedicated Light Painting Photography Website. We’ve still got several projects in the hopper that we managed to photograph before the cold weather got here. So, it could be a while until it gets added.

We still have two more Corvette projects that were created on this trip. Then we have projects that were just photographed on a light painting trip to North Carolina. There’s also one more project, in Massachusetts, that, because of the cooler weather, might have to wait until spring! Please stay tuned!

In the meantime, there are dozens and dozens of other cool light painting projects to check out on our website. Here’s the link: www.MichaelAndersonLightPainting.com
