Light Painting a 1927 International Wrecker and a 1936 Ford Sedan
We’re excited to share the story behind the stunning light painting of a 1927 International Wrecker and a 1936 Ford Sedan! These two wonderfully restored vehicles look pretty amazing in this fantastic Man Cave!
I met the vehicle’s owners, Perry, Cindy, and their son Jon, at Motorhead Madness in Duluth, Minnesota back in March. Perry and Cindy hired me on the spot to create a light painting for them! At that time, I didn’t know for sure which of their awesome vehicles they would have light painted. It turned out to be all three, just not all in one light painting!
Rain, Rain, Go Away!
Well, by default, it turned out that for their first light painting project, it would be these two beauties!
I say “first” because we were planning to light paint their rare 1969 Dodge Daytona that night, not these two. However, right before I was about to head toward their place, they called me to let me know that rain was coming to their area. In the drought-filled summer of 2023, I couldn’t believe it (the sun was actually out at the studio)! I pulled up the radar on my iPhone, and sure enough, rain was coming their way!
So, I asked them (ok, maybe I begged a little) if they would be interested in doing something they hadn’t planned on, creating a light painting of the 1927 International Wrecker and a 1936 Ford Sedan. From talking to them last March, I knew they had an indoor location available. However, I had no idea how cool Perry’s Man Cave was until I got there! Wow!
Before the rain arrived, we set the Daytona out in front of their beautiful log home (see above). It was just “practice” to see where we might place it once we did get the opportunity to light paint it. It turned out that opportunity would come less than a week later. I can tell you that it did not disappoint! We’ll be sharing that amazing light painting very soon!
The 1936 Ford Sedan
Let’s talk about that 1936 Ford Sedan a little bit. This hot car was used to run moonshine in the prohibition days (it has secret hidden compartments)! This beautiful 4-door trunk back has a 350 VET CRATE V8 with a Trans Turbo 400. It also features a Mustang front end, power steering, and power brakes, and the rear end is a Lincoln 3:73. Top it all off with an AM/FM sound system, and those cool suicide doors!
This beautiful blue sedan was a treat to light paint. Notice that I even snuck in the “pre-rain out photograph” of the Daytona on the big screen TV!
The 1927 International Wrecker
While I don’t have any specs on the wrecker, I do have several “before” images of this dude before it was fully, and wonderfully, restored. What a transformation!
There’s Way More To See!
And, here’s the completed light painting of both the 1927 International Wrecker and the 1936 Ford Sedan in Perry’s excellent Man Cave! This is so freakin cool!

1927 International Wrecker and a 1936 Ford Sedan – The Movie
As always, I’ve put the short “Build Video” on our YouTube channel. It shows the images that I used to create Perry and Cindy’s amazing one-of-a-kind light painted artwork. And then, how it all came together in Photoshop, one layer at a time (more than 100 layers total)! Please check it out! Thank you for reading our post and have a great day! – M&J
