Four-Vehicle Light Painting

Four-Vehicle Light Painting

A couple of weeks ago, I made another light painting trip up north, and one of the three projects was a four-vehicle light painting in front of an amazing Finnish barn in northern Wisconsin! This was another of the projects that came about from the Motorhead Madness Car Show in Duluth, Minnesota, held back in March.

Once we had this all set up, I knew it was going to be an amazing light painting!

Jean and Brian commissioned me to create this for them at the show. Originally, it was going to be a 2-car light painting project with Brian’s two cars. However, Jean contacted me after the show and asked if it would be ok to add her two pickup trucks to the image. Sounded pretty cool to me!

The Stars of the Show

From left to right in this image, we have a 2009 C6 Corvette all wrapped in blue. Anytime that a light painting includes a Corvette, it is going to look amazing, and this image certainly does!

Any light painting that has a Corvette in it is all right my me!

The 1972 Chevelle was a roller when it was purchased. Brian and Jean’s son, Ryan, will be installing a Turbo LS motor into it soon!

The ’72 Chevelle looks pretty sweet!

And next, there’s “Old Blue”. She’s a 1963 Chevy C20 Stepside, and she’s all original, too!

The other pickup is a 2021 Dodge Ram in Delmonico Red Pearl-Coat. It’s fitted with the Waldoch Package and was purchased brand new.

The 2021 Dodge Pickup sure is a pretty one!

The Finnish barn was the old dairy barn for the Communist Store that was on the property many years ago. What a cool backdrop for this four-vehicle light painting!

Our Little Helper

Upon my arrival, I was greeted by Brian and Jean, as well as their adorable granddaughter, four-year-old Sienna! It turns out that Sienna would help me take the light painting photographs (until she had to go to bed)! She was more than thrilled to fire the camera for me using my iPad Pro!

I would tell her when I was ready, then she would yell out, “Go!” And when I completed a pass, I would shout, “Done!”, and she would yell back, “Got it!”

It was a shame that Sienna had to go to bed because I loved listening to her! Grandma “filled in” for her once she went to bed. Her Dad, Gerard, came outside later on and told us that she had to tell Mom every little detail of what she did before she would go to bed! And, Sienna, Grandma did a great job finishing for you! Thank you for helping me!

The Dew Point

Once again, we had a light painting project with wet vehicles shortly after sunset. If it would ever stop raining for a day or two, maybe the air might dry out a little bit. I know, it’s summertime, and these things happen (just a bit too frequently lately, for my taste).

Thankfully, Brian and Jean just happened to have a few large fans that we employed to dry off the cars. Between the fans and lots of drying towels, we got the job done!

The incredible sky was not the sunset. Nope. It was the moonrise! With all of the smoke from the Canadian wildfires, the Waning Gibbous moonrise was bright orange! I love what it did to the passing clouds, with the contrasting blue sky to the west, and the sprinkling of stars in there, too. Very cool!

Here’s the final light-painted artwork! That barn put the icing on the cake!

Four-Vehicle Light Painting – The Movie

If you follow our light painting projects, you know that I always include a “Build Video” with each project. The short video on our YouTube channel begins with the images that I used to create their finished artwork. Then you’ll see it “come to life”, one small piece at a time. Since this is a four-vehicle light painting, it is a bit longer than some, but it’s worth the extra minute or so to see the close-ups of each vehicle!

All told, we took 350 images that night, and over 125 of them were used to create the artwork, which has over 175 layers in the final Photoshop file!

This project will be (eventually) added to our dedicated Light Painting Photography Website. We’ve still got several projects in the hopper over the next several weeks, before the cold weather gets here. So, it might be a while until I get it in there.

We still have the two other projects that were created on this trip, and light painting trips to Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, North Carolina, and one in Massachusetts coming up! In the meantime, there are lots of other cool light painting projects to check out on the website. Here’s the link: www.MichaelAndersonLightPainting.com
