2017 Corvette Grand Sport Light Painting
This is the story about a beautiful 2017 Corvette Grand Sport light painting, and it turned out to be quite a story indeed! It all started last September when, out of the blue, I received a call from a guy named Brian about purchasing one of my light painting files for an idea he had for a car show. He found me when doing a search on the internet for “vintage gas stations”!
He wanted to use my cool light painting of Gregg’s Vintage Gas Station in Carver, Minnesota as a backdrop for his car’s display at World of Wheels in Kansas City. That car is Brian’s stunning 1927 Spirit T Roadster, a brand-new replica of a Ford model T Roadster, that he was in the process of building at that time.
Long story short, I ended up helping Brian by working directly with the display company to design my vintage gas station light painting to fit into their display’s physical design so that it would work for him. That project has turned that guy, Brian, and now his sweet wife Barb, into friends of mine!
I have just returned from a week-long trip to Missouri, where I light painted that very 1927 Spirit T Roadster, along with their 2017 Corvette Grand Sport too! And did I mention that I stayed at Brian and Barb’s house for the week while I was down there? Yep, I did.
Rain was in the forecast, so we light painted the Corvette first thing that Wednesday night. So this blog post is primarily about the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport light painting. The Roadster, and a whole lot more, will be coming down the road (pardon the pun).
Lake of the Ozarks Corvette Club
Brian’s display was a hit at World of Wheels! He even received awards for both his awesome 1927 Spirit T Roadster and his display too! In all of the excitement, Brian invited me to his local Lake of the Ozarks Corvette Club car show, which was held last weekend at Margaritaville Lake Resort in Osage Beach, Missouri.
Driving 600 miles, one way, to have a booth for a car show isn’t exactly “normal” for me, but I bit the bullet and made the commitment. That turned out to be a very good call! I did know ahead of time that I would be creating a light painting of his 2017 Corvette Grand Sport for him, and I was hoping to light paint the 27′ Roadster too.
Much More Light Painting To Come!
The show was a tremendous success for the club and for me as well! I ended up creating additional light paintings of two other Corvettes (more on both of those sweet rides in the days to come), a couple of “mini” light paintings, as well as a daytime magazine shoot of another Corvette for LO Profile Magazine while I was there too!
The Long and Winding Road
I left Mounds View early on Wednesday morning so that I could make the 10-hour drive to Osage Beach in time to create Brian’s 2017 Corvette Grand Sport light painting before rain entered the area that night and supposedly the next day too. For the most part, the drive is a really enjoyable one, especially once you’re in Missouri and approaching the Ozarks. It’s a very beautiful area, that’s for sure! It didn’t hurt that things were nice and green down there after our very, very long winter up here! I was very excited when Brian told me that he wanted the Roadster light painted too!
Due to rain in the forecast, Brian and I did end up light painting both vehicles right away on the first night after I arrived! And, just like in Minnesota, the weather forecast was wrong and it did not rain (although it looked like it could have). All in all, between the two cars, I made well over 300 exposures that evening. It was a very long day, but a really great one! I slept like a rock that night.
Here’s the finished light painted artwork!
2017 Corvette Grand Sport – The Movie
As always, I’ve got a short video on our YouTube channel with “the build” of this fabulous car in front of Barb and Brian’s beautiful home. Please take a moment to check it out. Lots more will be coming from this great road trip to Missouri! Thank you so much for reading this post and have a great day! – M&J
