Light Painting a 1972 Buick Skylark Convertible
After completing the light painting photography for Grover and Teri’s 2000 Velocity Experimental Aircraft N832AB the night before, he and I headed toward the mountains of North Carolina for another cool project, a cool 1972 Buick Skylark Convertible with their pretty cabin as the backdrop!

Here’s the setup. Just waiting for it to get a little darker so we can get started with light painting.
It was after we completed the light painting of the 2000 Velocity that Grover asked me if I was up for another project while I was in North Carolina. Then he proceeded to tell me all about a special car that he’d restored. The 72 Buick has been in the family for many, many years, and he has brought it back to its full glory.
I had set aside two nights in their area just in case we had any weather issues, so I was fine with an add-on project! I would be traveling to the Charlotte area for another amazing light painting project, a Bell 505 Helicopter, the next night.
1972 Buick Skylark and the Mountains of North Carolina
Once again, I was a guest of Grover’s. This time, I was staying at their wonderful cabin in the mountains. I had a very difficult time leaving the following morning! What a beautiful retreat this place is! It was just us two boys out in the woods with a cool car (and Teri’s delicious leftover lasagna)!

The engine compartment of the 72 Skylark. It’s an original numbers-matching Buick 350 with Holley Sniper fuel injection. Sweet!
Grover’s 72 Buick is fantastic! The engine is an original numbers-matching Buick 350 with Holley Sniper fuel injection. Add in their pretty cabin, the peeking fall colors, and we had the ingredients for a really stunning light painting project! And, as you can see below, this one is truly stunning!
The 72 Buick Skylark Movie
This short Build Video contains the images that were used to create the Master File. It also shows it all coming together in post-production. 191 images were taken that night, and 67 of those, and 86 different layers, were combined to complete the one-of-a-kind artwork. And it looks absolutely stunning!
A huge thank you to Grover and Teri for their amazing hospitality and for the opportunity to do what I love with the vehicles that they cherish! I hope to visit you guys again someday (soon), I’d love to bring Joannie along the next time too! – M&J
