Harmon Killebrew Hospice Home for Kids Fund – Benefiting Children’s Lighthouse of Minnesota
We had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer for the launch of the Harmon Killebrew Hospice Home for Kids Fund benefiting Children’s Lighthouse of Minnesota! The event was held on January 18th at the McNamara Alumni Center at the University of Minnesota campus.
Harmon Killebrew experienced the value of hospice care himself. And one part of Harmon’s legacy is the support of hospice care for children. He and his wife Nita were involved in early efforts to create a children’s hospice in the 1990’s. Harmon himself frequently made hospice and hospital visits.
There are only two hospice homes for children in the United States and there are none in the entire Midwest. The efforts started on this wonderful evening will go towards building The Children’s Lighthouse Hospice Respite in Minnesota!

The event was MCed by Brian “BT” Turner of K-TWIN radio (96.3). There were performances of some scenes from the Ashland Productions “Damn Yankees” that is currently performing at the Maplewood Community Center. There also was great jazz music performed by The Reid Kennedy Trio.
On display was a fantastic display of sports memorabilia from Harmon Killebrew, Rod Carew, Scott LeDoux, Tony Oliva, Paul Molitor and Jack Morris.
This is such a wonderful cause and Joannie and I are going to assist in any way we can. Thank you to Nita Killebrew for asking us to help out on this very important event for children. We’re honored to further help our friend Harmon’s legacy. Enjoy the highlights of the great event!
