Light Painting Twin Rotax 912S Engines
Up next, we’ve got a pretty cool light painting of the Twin Rotax 912S Engines that provide the power for AirCam 912S N74TV. This project was created near Carrollton, Georgia, for our friends Ray and Melisa Fowler, who are privy to a lot of cool aircraft of all shapes and sizes.
This light painting happened only because it wasn’t too late when we finished up with the light painting of the main subject, the AirCam 912S N74TV. Here’s that cool image:

Here’s the finished light-painted image of the AirCam 912S N74TV and quite a few RC’s too!
The full story about that unique light painting can be found at this link.
Twin Rotax 912S Engines
Rotax 912S engines are the 100-horsepower, four-cylinder, four-stroke muscle for many light-sport and experimental aircraft. Featuring dual carburetors and liquid/air cooling, they serve up 100 horsepower at 5,800 RPM, and 95 continuous horsepower.
They are known for high reliability, excellent power-to-weight ratios, and 2,000-hour Time Between Overhaul (TBO). They’re often used in twin-engine configurations, like for the AirCam N74TV.

All I know is that they look pretty cool where they’re placed on the AirCam, and so I just had to light paint them!
The “Bonus” Light Painting
As we mentioned earlier, Joannie and I had completed the light painting photography for AirCam N74TV. It went very smoothly, and it was still fairly early. So I thought that it would be fun to light paint these cool-looking engines. You can’t see these guys from the front of the aircraft – only the tips of the propellers.
Since all of our gear was already set up, all we had to do was quickly reposition the camera, lock focus, and capture some images, just 27 of them, lighting the Rotax 912S from different angles. It probably took less than 20 minutes.
Once we had the images captured, we let our new friend, Tiru, know that we were done. Then, we packed up our gear and headed to our hotel with not one, but two, cool light painting projects “In-the-can”!

Here’s the final light-painting of the Twin Rotax 912S Engines on the AirCam 912S.
Twin Rotax 912S Engines – The Movie
As always, we’ve created a short “Build Video” with the images that we used to create the light-painted artwork. The link to check that video is below. In post-production, I used 21 of the 27 images that we created that evening, and a total of 54 layers are in the final Master File.
A huge thank you to Ray and Melisa for another great light painting project! Next time, I’ll try to schedule it for when you’re there! (They actually were supposed to be there, but someone messed up the date – me!)
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read our post! – M&J
