Bohemian Flats Park Wedding
On Saturday, September 14th, Joannie and I had the honor of photographing Dan and Traci’s pretty Bohemian Flats Park wedding. Bohemian Flats is located on the banks of the Mississippi River in downtown Minneapolis, MN right across the river from the U of M campus.
Their intimate wedding ceremony was followed by a wonderful dinner cruise aboard the Paradise Lady. The cruise included a sail both ways through the Saint Anthony Falls Lock and Dam. Pretty cool!
Their wedding day got off to a fantastic start in their suite at The Grand Hotel in Minneapolis, MN. Traci didn’t really want any photos of her getting ready, just some nice wedding photographs of some of the small details. So Joannie and I set up five different images. And since light painting photography is made to bring out the details, we light painted each one of them!
Nicollet Island Wedding Photos
Once we finished with the photography part of the light paintings, Joannie & I headed to Nicollet Island to set up for Dan’s first look with his wife-to-be. We found a nice spot by the river and waited for Traci to arrive in the limo. Then the limo made a return trip to pick up Dan and the wedding party (their kids). WHile we were waiting for Dan, we made some really nice wedding images of Traci.
Upon Dan’s arrival, he got to see his pretty bride with downtown Minneapolis and the Stone Arch Bridge as the background. We created quite a few pretty wedding photos of the future Mr. and Mrs. McKinnon right by the Nicollet Island Pavillion.
Wedding party photos followed with all of the images created with either trees or the Minneapolis skyline as their backdrop. The weather that day was wonderful! We only needed to add a kiss of light from our strobes to help fill in the shadows a little on that sunny Saturday.
Bohemian Flats Wedding Photos
We departed Nicollet Island to get these two married at Bohemian Flats Park which is where the Paradise Lady is also docked. Quite a few extended family photos would be taken first. Then, while their wedding guests arrived, the wedding party stayed out-of-sight on the boat.
As we mentioned earlier, a sweet, intimate wedding ceremony followed the family photographs. Once they were pronounced husband and wife, it was time to celebrate aboard the Paradise Lady!
That’s where we’ll take it up in “Part Two” in a few days. In the meantime, we’ve got a fun highlight music video of the events leading up to and including their pretty wedding ceremony at Bohemian Flats Park. Until then, thank you for reading our post and have a great one! – M&J
