The Batmobile Returns
Last week, we shared the fun and entertaining story of how we came about light painting the Batmobile, as well as the Batcave. Well, this time, the Batmobile returns with multiple light-painted versions of both the front and rear-end views of this iconic crime-fighting car!

Here’s the interior of the Batmobile as seen from Robin’s side.
And, once again, we’re going to have fun writing this story by pretty much staying in character.
If you’re wondering how this unusual light painting project came about, please click on the link below to find out how we discovered the Batcave, met Bruce Wayne, Commissioner Gordon, and their friend Batman!
Light Painting The Batmobile and The Batcave
This light painting project was so cool! This is perhaps the most famous crime-fighting vehicle of all-time, and Joannie and I had the privilege of doing what we love – light painting it to make the Batmobile look even cooler (if that’s even possible)! Not to mention, getting to meet Bruce Wayne and Batman through our friend, Commissioner Gordon!

A wide-shot of the Batmobile’s cool interior.
In our first story, mentioned above, we light-painted the entire car. In this one, we’ve got cool close-ups of the front and rear ends, both from straight on.
Not only that, in this story, once again, the Batmobile returns to the Batcave! I was able to do just that because I just happened to have light-painted the Batcave last year in Missouri (with a Corvette)! Please click on the link below to check that light painting project out.

Light Painting the Front-End of The Batmobile

Here’s our camera setup for the Batmobile’s front-end light painting.
We always take our light painting projects very seriously. On most projects, I usually have a vision of what the final image will look like, even before we’ve started the actual photography. Because this vehicle is so iconic, I really wanted to capture the things that make the Batmobile, “The Batmobile”, and do so in one evening.
I wanted to knock this one out of the park, not only for Batman, but, as a kid who grew up with this vehicle in my living room twice a week, for myself personally! So, I brought three cameras and three tripods along with us. One light painting would not be enough.
I had three goals for this truly one-of-a-kind project that night. First, a light painting of the whole car that, if I wanted to, I could “relocate” to the Batcave that I light-painted last year. Nailed it!

The amazing Batmobile is sitting in front of the Batcave.
My second goal was an amazing light painting of the Batmobile’s cool front-end. I wanted to really highlight the iconic bulletproof, double-bubble glass canopy, as well as the nose scoop, with its cool mesh-style front grille and custom-blended front bumper.

Cool light-painted photograph of one of the coolest cars ever!
The other parts of the Batmobile that look really amazing from this angle are the gold Bat-Radar Antenna and the red police Bat-Beacon, both of them reflecting off the hood’s finish. And, of course, all of the red pinstriping really pops, too!

The combination of two cool light painting projects, the Batcave and the Batmobile.
I actually don’t know which of the versions I like best – both in the Batcave and on a street in Gotham City look amazing!
Light Painting the Rear-End of The Batmobile
The third goal was to capture what I personally feel is the Batmobile’s most iconic and coolest view – the fabulous rear-end!

Here’s our camera setup for the Batmobile’s rear-end light painting.
This view of the Batmobile features its iconic wing-like Bat Fins, and, once again, the bulletproof, double-bubble glass canopy. Also, the dual 10-foot parachutes, which, when the Emergency Bat-Turn Lever is deployed, make the Batmobile perform a 180-degree turn! And, there are the 3 silver Bat Rocket Launchers, which are part of the automatic theft-control system.

Dang, this is one amazing car!
Atomic Batteries to Power! Turbines to Speed!
Then, there’s perhaps the coolest feature on the entire Batmobile: the Rocket Exhaust Tube! I remember, as a kid, watching in amazement when Robin said those famous words, and the Batmobile started up and raced out of the Batcave, and then those flames shot out of there! So very cool!

Here’s a cropped view of my favorite parts of the Batmobile, the parachutes and the fiery Rocket Exhaust Tube.
The Batmobile Returns – The “Build Video”
As always, we’ve created a short video for our YouTube channel that begins with the images that we used to create each one of these cool views of the Batmobile’s light painting. It concludes with the “build”, one layer at a time, until the Master File is complete.

This car is just crazy cool!
In the front-end version, we took 74 images, and I used 24 of those, in 52 unique layers, to create the final artwork. For the rear-end version, Joannie and I took 107 images, and I used 35 of those, in 70 layers, to create the final artwork. The Batcave light painting was created last year with a total of 44 images.
For the final images in the Build Video, the Batmobile returns in front of the Batcave! The link to view the whole process is below on our YouTube channel:
