Griffith & Kathryn’s Engagement Portraits at The Saint Paul Hotel
Just before we left for our 22nd annual North Shore Weekend, I had the pleasure of photographing Griffith and Kathryn’s engagement photos at my favorite Twin Cities wedding venue, The Saint Paul Hotel.
It was a beautiful Friday afternoon in downtown St. Paul. Comfortable temperatures, a light breeze, along with a cute couple, it made for a really enjoyable afternoon.
We started out in front of the hotel in the pretty garden area creating some very nice images there. Then it was time to go inside the beautiful, historic hotel.
The reason we chose this location is that Kathryn simply loves the hotel. She had her heart set on having their engagement portraits at The Saint Paul Hotel. Not just at the hotel, but inside it too. The only wrinkle in that plan is that you have to be guest to photograph inside the hotel. So she and Griffith got a room for the night! I love the spontaneity!
So after they checked in, we got to “play” up, down, and all around. We started on the grand staircase, then downstairs just outside the M ST. Cafe, back upstairs at The Lobby Bar, in front of the lobby fireplace, and finally just outside the beautiful Promenade Ballroom.
But we weren’t done yet. It was back outside to capture some fun images on the street level by the cool side entrance to the hotel. It was rush hour at this point, so I was across the street trying to time my images with the passing traffic. Sometimes it worked out and sometimes there were parts of vehicles in the frame. Ah, the fun of street photography.
The James J. Hill Library
Our final stop was the majestic white marble building just around the corner, the James J. Hill Library. The images we created there are lighthearted and fun. I think they captured Griffith and Kathryn’s personalities just a much as their engagement portraits at The Saint Paul Hotel do.
Griffith and Kathryn have a February wedding date coming up. And while we’re not looking forward to winter, we are looking forward to being their wedding photographers.
As I frequently do, I’ve created a highlight music video with some of my favorite images. I hope you enjoy it. Have a great Friday! – M&J
