Five-Vehicle Light Painting
I’m very pleased to share a cool five-vehicle light painting project that I’ve just completed. This one-of-a-kind artwork includes a 1939 Packard Coupe, a stunning 1948 Pontiac Silver Streak, and a really cool 1955 Chevy 3100 Pickup (both of which are beautifully restored). And it also has a 1959 Chevy El Camino, and a 1959 Cadillac Coupe Deville in the image too! All of them are in a beautiful wooded setting (which was also light painted) under an enormous oak tree at Terry and Lori’s home.
Motorhead Madness in Duluth, Minnesota
I met Terry and Lori at this year’s Motorhead Madness Car Show held annually in Duluth, Minnesota in March. Terry commissioned my light painting services right there at the show. We just needed our long winter to let go so we could get outdoors and play. And play we did!
This was an epic light painting project, taking about 5 hours to light paint from start to finish. We took over 500 exposures and the finished artwork includes over 130 of them! All-in-all, it covers about an acre of land, including a massive oak tree and five beautiful automobiles from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s! We’ll cover them one at a time, starting with the oldest of the bunch.
Light Painting a 1939 Packard Coupe 110 Series
The Packard Coupe 110 Series, also referred to as a One-Ten, was an automobile produced by the Packard Motor Car Company of Detroit, Michigan, from 1935 to 1937 and from 1939 through the 1941 model years. This Packard, which is Lori’s favorite, is a 1939 Packard Coupe 110 Series with a 6-cylinder engine and a 3-speed transmission. It is all original in Gray Laquer.
Light Painting a 1948 Pontiac Silver Streak
The 1948 Pontiac Silver Streak is one of two beautifully restored vehicles in this unique collection. Terry built this beauty from a bare frame from the ground up! Among its many amazing features are a Pro Street, Supercharged 454 engine with an amazing 888 horsepower! The paint color is stunning Chrysler Metallic Maroon and it features a Thermidor “AC” system that is actually attached to the car on the outside of the passenger-side window!
Light Painting a 1955 Chevrolet 3100 Stepside Shortbox Pickup Truck
Up next is a 1955 Chevrolet 3100 Stepside Shortbox pickup truck. This fantastic vehicle was also restored by Terry, also starting from a bare frame from the ground up! This amazing pickup is a nominee for the 2023 Custom Car of the Year! The fabulous paint job is a beautiful Copo Blue with Pearl Coat. This pickup truck has an LS 6.0 with 4L60 E on a Corvette suspension.
1959 Cadillac Coupe Deville
This 1959 Cadillac Coupe Deville is all-original with just 60,000 actual miles! The Vegas Blue Cadillac has a 390 CID Automotive. When you’re standing next to it, it seems like it’s about 30 feet long!
The 1959 Chevrolet El Camino
Last, but not least, we’ve got a 1959 Chevrolet El Camino with a 348 Tri-Power and an automatic transmission in Triple black!
The Finished Artwork and a Movie too!
Terry and Lori’s one-of-a-kind artwork is truly just that, one-of-a-kind! Between their unique collection of vehicles and their beautiful location, this light painting cannot be replicated! This was a real treat for me to create for them and I know they will love having this stunning artwork hanging in their home for years and years to come!
As always, here’s the short YouTube video I’ve put together that includes many of the more than 130 images that went into creating this five-vehicle light painting and the “build” in post-production. We know that you’ll get a kick out of it! Thank you for reading our post and have a great day! – M&J
