A young humpback whale is seen breaching in Lahaina Harbor in February 2020. The restaurant Fleetwood’s On Front Street, and other shops, are seen in the background. Tragically, many lives were lost, and the restaurant and all of the Front Street Shops burned to the ground in the wildfires of 2023.

We are just a small mom-and-pop photography business, so for this to work well, we need your help to spread the word! Please share this page with everyone you know! Every dollar we can raise will go to help the people of Maui. Every photograph in the gallery was created on or in the waters around the Island of Maui!

Our Love For Maui

Joannie and I fell in love with Hawaii ever since we photographed Willie & Brittany’s wedding on the Big Island of Hawaii in 2012! Since then, Hawaii, and especially Maui, has become our favorite vacation destination. There are not enough words to describe all of the things that we love about this beautiful place!

We have returned to Maui on three subsequent trips to Hawaii. And, on each trip, we always stay in, and spend the majority of our time in Lahaina. This is not by coincidence. It is because we fell in love with Lahiana’s wonderful vibe, stunning scenery, close proximity to humpback whales (in season), great food, and most importantly, the awesome people that live and work there!

Like all of us, Joannie and I have been watching the horrific scenes of the wildfires that have devastated the island of Maui and the wonderful town of Lahaina. As you know, these fires have caused devastating loss of life and massive destruction. Like many of you, our hearts are broken each time we see a news story from Lahaina. We know exactly the locations they are talking about because we’ve actually been there.

This is what Makai Adventures at Slip 16 looked like this past winter before a sunrise whale-watching trip. Now it and everything else in the harbor is gone.

Our Maui Photography To Raise Funds for the Maui Fire Relief Effort

Joannie and I want to help the people of Maui on the road to recovery. They have given us so many incredible memories that we have to try and give back to them.

By using my God-given talent as a professional photographer. I’ve assembled many photographs from our four trips to Maui and placed them in a special online gallery. These images, all taken on Maui, are available for you to purchase in many sizes, and three finishes (luster paper, canvas, and metal prints). All profits from the sale of these Maui photographs will be donated to The Maui United Way!

Here are some of the Maui photography subjects that you’ll find in this special Maui Fire Relief Photo Gallery:

  • Humpback Whales! We’ve taken many whale-watching trips on Maui, nearly all of them with the awesome Makai Adventures, so there are lots of images of humpback whales! Some of these images have portions of Lahaina in the background.
The Makai Adventures boat, Kainalu, on a whale watch in the winter of 2020.

A sign of much happier times. The Makai Adventures vessel, Kainalu, was on a whale watch in 2020. The vessel was lost in the devastating wildfire in August of 2023. Thankfully, her crews are all safe. However, nearly all of them lost everything in the fire.

  • Kaihalulu Red Sand Beach in Hana! This past winter of 2023, we safely made it to this stunning beach for the first time. The scenery here will blow you away, it certainly did for us! If you try to venture here, please be extremely careful as the hike is very dangerous, especially if it’s wet. Instead, we suggest the purchase of one (or more) of our photographs instead. It’s totally safe, and it’s for a really great cause!

A stunning before and after light painted tropical flower arrangement at Hana Tropicals on Maui, Hawaii.

While we were light painting at Hana Tropicals, this one really caught our attention! This is the setup image and the finished light painting. Stunning!

  • There are also waterfalls, beaches, panoramic vistas, and other beautiful scenery.

This wide panoramic image was created using several images stitched together in Photoshop. Haleakalā is part of the National Park of the same name and is located on the island of Maui, Hawaii.
