Gina’s Maple Grove High School Senior Portraits on the North Shore of Lake Superior!
Gina and her entourage made the trip “up north” for our 20th annual “North Shore Portrait Weekend” last week. Just like it was on Saturday for McKenna’s senior portraits and James & Alli’s engagement portraits (and the two other families we photographed at Split Rock Lighthouse), it was a nice overcast day. But it was also pretty windy once again on Lake Superior on this Sunday. Actually, it was much windier on Sunday than it was on Saturday!
Oh boy.
Senior Photos at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park
Gina, Joannie and I spent lots of time at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park while mom, a friend of hers and the kids were entertained by the beauty of it all watching off and on from a distance.
We started down by the water and finished up at the famous lighthouse itself (in the wind) where we created many of Gina’s Maple Grove High School senior photos right on and in the famous Minnesota landmark.
Yes, she and I went right inside the lighthouse (to get out of the wind for a few minutes) on our own self-guided “mini-tour” of the historic Minnesota icon. It’s pretty tight quarters up there for taking photos, but we and several other tourists got to check out the big light and it’s large prisms up close. Pretty cool.
Just A Bit Windy
Did I mention it was windy? It really, really was blowing up on top of the lighthouse cliffs! But Gina was a trooper despite her hair going in every direction most of the time!
We left Split Rock Lighthouse State Park and headed towards Two Harbors. We made a stop at “The Pink Beach” for a significantly less windy photo stop on the big lake. There were a few raindrops occasionally tossed in, but we took some really nice senior portraits at this stop including some interesting infrared senior photos too!
We headed to our final destination in Two Harbors, Minnesota for some fun “urban” senior portraits. We created them right in the business district of this historic mining town.
Gina’s senior pictures will be very different from any of her classmates. That’s just the way we all want it to be. Very cool.
Thank you, Gina, for asking us to create your senior portraits with you on Lake Superior! – M&J
