Harley Davidson Engagement Light Painting

Corey and Ashley’s Harley Davidson Engagement Light Painting

Just the other day, we told you about Corey and Ashley’s fantastic fall engagement portraits that we created in Stillwater, MN. Today we’ll be sharing the story behind their awesome Harley Davidson engagement light painting that we created together at the historic St. Croix Boat & Packet building in downtown Stillwater, MN.

In addition to their “regular” engagement portraits, we planned on creating a light painted engagement portrait too. It would be a very pretty cool one too because Corey brought his Harley Davidson motorcycle along to be included in the light painting. It turned out to be a good call because this engagement portrait light painting turned out to be nothing short of stunning!

As we were walking around downtown Stillwater, it was starting to get dark. That’s great for light painting, but not so great for “normal” engagement portraits. So we closed out their daylight engagement portraits at the Saint Croix Boat & Packet building with them wearing their leather biker jackets. That’s also where we decided to light paint the Harley Davidson motorcycle. The building is just too cool!

It’s Getting Dark Out Here!

I got to work to capture the base image of the scene before it got totally dark. Then I took several images of Corey and Ashley with the Harley. Once both of those items were checked off the list, it was time to light paint the Harley and the St. Croix Boat & Packet building.

Corey was my “trigger man” for this light painting, tripping the stutter on the camera with my iPhone each time I got a new spot to light paint. I think Corey really enjoyed assisting me in creating this engagement light painting masterpiece!

One of the things I enjoy most about many of the light paintings that we’re creating is that I’ve been able to add some fantasy elements to some of them. Most often, it’s the sky that I’ve been “juicing” in post-production. Since the sky is usually totally black when I’m light painting, it only makes sense to do something creative with it. So here’s the final Harley Davidson engagement light painting that I created with Corey, Ashley and the Harley.

There’s A Movie!

Below, is a short movie that shows all of the steps that went into creating Corey and Ashley’s Harley Davidson Engagement Light Painting. I hope you enjoy it and thanks for taking the time to read this post.

Corey and Ashley will be getting married next October at the beautiful Leopold’s Mississippi Gardens in Brooklyn Park, MN. I’m pretty certain that that will be a very pretty fall wedding. You never know, there could even be another light painting! – M&J
